« What a joy and what a success!
It is rare for a dance show to reach the 100-performance mark. We have just surpassed it with our youth production of PPS Danse, Le Trésor. This is all the more touching and symbolic since it is the last work of the late founder, Pierre-Paul Savoie. Everywhere Le Trésor goes, it touches people with its poetry and gentleness; the complicity of the brother and sister on stage is expressed through the inventiveness of the games and worlds they create. Part of the fragility and depth of the show comes from the friendship that the two children have with their cat, Piano. As the artistic director, it is a privilege to witness the evolution of the show over time. I recently saw performers Audray Julien and Nicolas Boivin take liberties with nuances and subtleties that could not have been seen (or touched) in the first performances. It is beautiful to see the work of others. Thank you, Marie-Eve Carrière, and the entire touring team, for allowing this work to spread and unfold. Right now, it is you, Audray, Nicolas, Philippe, Juliette, Myriam, Delphine, Benjamin, and Marie-Eve, who make it all possible.
Now that Le Trésor is continuing its journey beyond the 100 performances, I ask myself this question: what can we put in place and/or how can we ensure that the artistic and technical teams continue to commit themselves and keep the production of the shows alive, inspiring and sensitive? I believe that part of the answer lies in the spontaneity of young people’s reactions, which refresh and renew our relationship with the “work”. Because yes, even with the noblest intentions in the world, getting up in the wee hours of the morning and putting yourself in performance mode for hundreds of children is work.
From now on, what I wish for PPS Danse and the spectators is to continue to encounter a work that is always evolving. A work that follows and unfolds in contact with those who wear it, while retaining the initial spark and vision of its creators.
To all of you who are part of this success, from the beginning, along the way or more recently, thank you, but above all, bravo! »
David Rancourt
A thousand thanks,
We have reached the end of the performances of our latest creation, Perles, for this season. We have come a long way since our premiere in Ste-Geneviève on November 17th. Thank you to the presenters throughout Quebec for making room for dance in your programming. Thank you to the audience for coming to experience the works and their artists. We take the stage every night to stimulate exchange and create a sense of connection. Your presence gives meaning to our work.
I would like to thank the entire PPS Danse team: Anne-V, Benjamin, Marie-Claude, Sirine, and Ginette. It is the sum of our work that allows our projects to shine. I am extremely grateful to all of you.
I also thank the artists, performers, technical team, designers, and collaborators of Perles for their trust and for being part of the adventure. Our proposal is enriched by all of your talents and contributions, and I deeply appreciate it. Alexis Dumais and Annie Gagnon, you are invaluable allies. Where rigor and letting go meet, creation is revealed. The response we receive from audiences everywhere we go confirms that we have a beautiful show in our hands.
To all those who have been with us from the beginning and to all those who have passed through, thank you a thousand times. This great creative enterprise nourishes my appreciation for my role as artistic director and reaffirms my confidence in “the process”. This adventure demonstrates to me, once again, that creativity evolves and is best conjugated with frank, constructive, and harmonious human relationships.
Meanwhile, I have stepped away from our youth production, Le Trésor, which is also touring Quebec. To the entire touring team, congratulations and thank you! You are contributing to the cultural awakening of thousands of children with your energy and sensitivity. Marie-Eve Carrière, thank you for being the guardian of this work, ensuring its quality and evolution, even after a hundred performances.
Pierre-Paul, I am thinking of you. We are following your momentum, and I think you would be proud of us.
As we created at the end of the show Les Chaises, our Speaker was speechless to describe and envision the future of the world. In search of the words that would reveal THE existential message, he resigned himself to removing his hat and offering candidly dozens of bows, hoping that each and everyone would accept this greeting, this recognition, and their own responsibility towards the future of the world.
So to all of you named above,
A thousand bows,
David Rancourt
