Nicolas Patry
For the past thirteen years, Nicolas Patry has been active in the professional dance scene in Montreal. Through his many artistic encounters, Nicolas develops and commits himself to sensitive, meaningful dance. His path has been greatly nourished by his encounter with artist Danièle Desnoyers, with whom he has collaborated on the works of the company Le carré des Lombes since 2013. In 2017, Nicolas met David Albert Toth and Emilie Gualtierri (Parts+Labour_Danse) and discovered a mode of creation that greatly challenged him. The physicality and humanity of the work take his dance further. Seeking to renew himself with each of his projects, he sees the potential of the body and dance as multiple. In 2019, he is setting up a revamped choreographic commissioning project with three choreographers, enabling him to direct his first large-scale project.
Nicolas trains assiduously in Continuum Movement with Linda Rabin and in Qi Gong with Fragments Libres under the guidance of Marie-Claude Rodrigue. His fascination with developing a sensitive, versatile body has grown as a result. In parallel with his dance career, Nicolas pursued his thirst for movement and research by enrolling in a DESS in somatic education at UQÀM, with a view to perfecting his tools as a dance teacher. Nicolas uses teaching as a platform to share his vision of movement and, above all, to help young dance artists gain confidence in their creative and expressive potential.
