Pierre-Paul (the lighthouse),
It is not trivial to tell that I encountered Bagne at the Theatre du cuivre in Rouyn-Noranda, in 1997 I think. There were not many of us in the room that night. I was there with friends from the Studio Rythme et Danse, my brother and my parents. For each of us, or almost, it was our first encounter with contemporary dance. What an evening! When we left the show, I couldn’t say if I liked it. I do remember that once we got home we talked about it: Were these two men in love? What prison were they stuck in? At that time, in my teenage body, heart and head, a door had just opened: the one where there are doubts, gray areas, questions and few answers. A world of possibilities. I was discovering little by little that it existed! The life of an artist.
Who would have thought that a few years later we would be side by side holding hands at a general assembly of the Regroupement Québécois de la Danse. Who would have thought then that a collaboration of more than 10 years would lead us to dance, create, dialogue and travel the country together. Who would have thought that our affinities and our sensibilities would bring us together to the point where we are today. Who would have thought that today, I would pass on these words to you.
I imagine that you believed it, because what I retain from your light is that it sails with confidence, that it sees far and that it knows how to dream.
